Several robotic battles, intergalactic digressions, and "flip-o-ramas" later, Super Diaper Baby has done his duty, and George and Harold are in trouble yet again with their principal. Still, it was worth it, as any fan of Dav Pilkey's lowbrow, scatologically inclined "epic novels" (The Adventures of Captain Underpants, Captain Underpants and the Wrath of the Wicked Wedgie Woman, etc.) will attest. Schneider (Skokie, IL USA) - See all my reviews    This review is from: The Adventures of Super Diaper Baby (Paperback) My 6 1/2 year old daughter, 4 1/2 year old son, as well as my wife and I all enjoyed it very much. We have been Pilkey fans for awhile and have enjoyed all of the Captain Underpants Series and Ricky Ricotta Series. This is really an extension of Captain Underpants, but it is all written as if it were a George and Harold comic book. If you're familiar with Captain Underpants you'll know what that means. Basically Pilkey created 2 mischevious gradeschoolers who make up comic books about Captain Underpants and inadvertantly created a "real" Captain Underpants. When they get into trouble and have to write an essay, they wind up making up a new character, Super Diaper Baby, which is the basis of this book/comic book. The humor appeals to children, but also contain references which will amuse the parents. Its a little harder for non-readers to follow than Captain Underpants because its all written as a comic book,... Langner (Illinois) - See all my reviews    This review is from: The Adventures of Super Diaper Baby (Paperback) I'm really very happy with the Super Diaper Baby and Captain Underpants books. Is it what I would run out and "choose" for my daughter to read? Not in a million years. But my daughter has been reading since she was three years old. During first grade this past school year she was tested at a fifth grade reading level. Yet she rarely read. This series has seriously sparked her interest in reading and opens the doors for more books. The "potty humor".....kids are going to be exposed to that with or without these books. I can remeber finding potty humor hilarioius as a kid. I say let them be kids, continue to teach them what's appropriate and when and thank God they have a desire to read. I'm thrilled to see a "passion" for books finally developing in my 7 year old. This book is written under the guise that his Captain Underpants protagonists, Harold Hutchins and George Beard, have to write an essay about why you should be a good citizen. The result is Super Diaper Baby, a super tot who fights for truth, justice, and the pursuit of a clean diaper. The less said the better, let's just say that parents will cringe at the thought of their child reading this, then sit down in private and laugh themselves silly. All the things that made FuzziBuns far superior, BumGenius borrowed for this design. The availability of snaps means that you can use your diapers for a second child (the velcro does NOT last on velcro tabs of any brand - DO NOT GET VELCRO) and active babies don't rip off their snap diapers (wrangling them into the snaps, of course, is why some people like velcro - but not so great when they choose to rip off velcro and do their business on the nice rug). The biggest improvement is the replaceable elastic - something FuzziBuns introduced a while back. This is the number one reason my older cloth diapers "pooped" out (and I mean that in oh so many ways). So, the remaining differences (and here I'm talking about the latest versions of both - November 2010): I think FuzziBuns are softer and stay softer after washing. BG is one of the biggest brands of cloth diapers so you can get them pretty much anywhere. The diapers are fine, I just don't think they are the best. I tried several other smaller brands that I think were better for a variety of reasons. I'll start with the things I liked about the BG diapers: 1. They are very absorbent diapers and rarely leaked. 2. They are very affordable. I got mine during a B5G1 sale, so my real cost per diaper was only $14. That's great for a one-size diaper. I also like that it comes with two inserts, although most OS pockets do. 3. They're cute! I loved all the bright color options and new prints. 4. Option of snaps or aplix. There are pros and cons of each, and it is nice to have the choice. But, there are quite a few things that could be improved on:... I have 6 month old twin boys and they wear bum genius exclusively at home (day care does not allow cloth). Here are the things we like: -adjustable fit. One twin is stockier than the other and this way I don't have to buy separate sizes. we have the hook and loop version and so far, there are no issues with the Velcro after 6 months of use. -easy care. Just pop both the liner and the shell in the washer. I air dry the shells and throw the inserts in the dryer. I use regular detergent and have no issue with smell. I highly recommend purchasing diaper liners to go with this product, it makes clean up a snap. -very minimal leaks. Keep in mind that cloth diapers don't have the same wear length as pampers, so be prepared to change your children more frequently. One thing that took a bit was figuring out the fit (they don't come with instructions) so it was a trial and error in the beginning. This might not be an all night...
